‘Estigma’ speaks to us about that inner prison we build because of fear of rejection and not being loved for who we are. This is the starting point of a story that I’ve intended to face as a personal matter, dealing with my complex relationship with illness and rejection.
As a filmmaker, I’m fascinated by the possibility of playing with the horror genre in order to depict human conflicts as universal and common as serophobia is. Being honest, as I’m not related to this illness, I believe I would never have dared to speak about it if I hadn’t been invited to do so. But as a creator I firmly believe that particular projects come at particular times, and when they do, they come with a lesson to be learned.
‘Estigma’ speaks about my own fears and phobias, and it becomes a tool to help me exorcise them alongside with the audience. Because the story puts one universal question in front of you, a question we all have faced before. ‘Would you love me if..’ ‘Would you love me if I showed you my fears, my phobias, my inner demons...?’ In the end, if you really got to know me as I truly am, from the inside out, would you still love me?

‘Estigma’ habla sobre esa prisión interna que nos construimos por miedo al rechazo social y a no ser amados por lo que somos. Éste es el punto de partida de una historia que he encarado desde una visión muy personal, poniéndome al frente de cómo vivo en mis propias carnes el miedo a las enfermedades y a no ser correspondido.
Como director, me fascina la idea de poder jugar con el género de terror para tratar conflictos humanos tan universales y actuales como la serofobia. Siendo honesto, al no tener una relación con la enfermedad, creo que nunca hubiera abordado este tema sino me hubieran invitado a hacerlo. Pero como creador, me gusta creer que los proyectos llegan cuando tienen que llegar y que siempre lo hacen acompañados de un aprendizaje necesario.
Estigma habla de mis propios miedos, de mis propias fobias, y se convierte en un ejercicio para exorcizarlos a nivel personal y con el espectador. Porque al final, la historia te pone frente a frente con una pregunta universal que todos nos hemos hecho alguna vez. ¿Me querrías si...? te mostrara mi parte más vulnerable, si te mostrara mis miedos, mis fobias, mis demonios internos. En definitiva, si llegaras a conocerme de verdad con todo lo que tengo dentro, con todo lo que soy, ¿me seguirías queriendo?
